college essay

Hey, I am about to write an essay for a college application.  There are five topics to choose from and then a free write option.  I feel that it would be easier to do the free write.  I kind of want to do a creative writing piece... by it not being personally about me, does that mean that  they aren't getting any information about me? I think that I can show more writing skills and expression by doing something fun, but I don't want that to be something that they are not looking for.  Does that make sense?  If so, do you think that the creative writing could be a good option?
